Arts Education: Our Approach

We all read books, watch movies, and enjoy music, photography and art. Life would be dull indeed without dancers, painters, writers, musicians, vocalists, filmmakers, actors and artists. What they create is the expression of the human condition. Arts education, be it dance, music, writing, visual art, or drama, focuses a student on expressing ideas, discovering self, and communication with others. The arts help us understand our humanity; conveying ideas, working to challenge and engage, inspire, connect and comfort us. Those who study the arts must be disciplined, both physically and mentally, as they discover, explore, and perfect their craft . Self confidence is fostered with each achievement along the path toward working to their potential and it has life-long benefits. To possess the skill of playing a piano, singing a song, dancing, writing or drawing produces a very therapeutic result for the person just home from work at the factory, firm, or store. What they create they can also share to benefit others in their community, church or school.

We have worked with hundreds of students in the last 12 years and many of them have gone on to study vocal performance, dance, acting, teaching and music therapy in college. Others have gone right into performing in bands, at Theme Parks, Cruise Ships, Film and Theatre. Several are starting recording careers. Still, most performing arts students do not go into the arts to make their living but they use the tools and skills they learn from their arts education and training in other walks of life .The confidence and knowledge of self that comes from working in performing arts really sets these individuals apart as the pursue their dreams and complete their education to join the work force. Music, art, dance, writing and acting all offer a very therapeutic release for those working in all areas of business from white collar to blue collar professions. The Arts help us deal with the every day stresses in our lives. Many adults find coming back into weekly classes or lessons helps them reconnect to that creative part of their soul which can be healing to mind and body.

At D'Alto Studio of Performing Arts we provide affordable lessons and classes and encourage all ages to come and explore their artistic natures. We strive to provide a social outlet for the students who come from different towns, jobs, and schools. Maybe school or work friends do not participate in the arts - maybe they are more interested in athletics or academics. The Studio provides that warm home away from home where friends are waiting to share the joy that the student finds in creating and living their art form, from the youngest, involved in programs such as MusiKids and Creative Movement, to adults coming back to dance, act, sing, or play an instrument.

Whether the goal of lessons is personal or professional, we provide our students with excellent training in both the technical and the creative aspects of their art form. We also provide opportunities to perform at both the amateur and the professional level in their field. Each of our instructors is a professional in their field who not only teaches but performs and works at the professional level .

At D'Alto Studio we do not believe in achieving goals through intimidation, guilt, or any other negative mechanism. We strive to be a source of knowledge and training through friendship and nurture with the most positive of approaches. We assist our students in setting goals and help them achieve those goals for their own benefit, not our own. We believe in improvisation, creativity and individuality and we respect our students and the sacrifices they and their families make toward their arts training.
